It all started in 1975 when Les Wykes bought land to establish a re glazing factory on Glasgow Street in Huntly, and within less than a year he branched out to establish a joinery and kitchen factory known as Huntly Joinery. One day in 1990 while flying over the LaminexNZ factory in Taupo, Les spotted the seven metre press which was used for making the particle board for his kitchens, and after discussions with Fletcher Building about producing a formulated board that was able to be used in the housing industry, the second panel housing system in New Zealand was born, then known as Tripanel Systems. In 1994 the company rebranded to Laserbilt Systems and growth was exponential in the residential and commercial sectors. Les sold Laserbilt Systems to Fletcher Building Ltd in 1997 where the product was named Maxim Panel and marketed as Life Space Homes, and in 199 the Fastest House in the World’ record was achieved in 3 hours 44 minutes!.
After marrying Les’s daughter Melissa, they both felt it the obvious choice to purchase back the business in 2007 and become the principal drivers of business growth and development, and streamlining processes. They are fortunate to have the past knowledge of Les on hand and Andrew’s experience from working with the system since over many years. Andrew has been working with the Metrapanel system since the 90’s and with his comprehensive background in manufacturing and operations management, he has been at the forefront of the research and development for growing the innovative solution to the success it is today. With a strong 25 year history, providing modular panel solutions for over 9,00 houses, we ensure the longevity of our company by constantly working on our founding principles of offering customer excellence, to maintain the highest levels of professionalism, integrity, honesty and fairness in our relationships with our suppliers, installers, professional associates and customers.
The combination of Metrapanel’s experienced manufacturing team and savvy management personnel, solid network of Licensed Installers throughout New Zealand and high end factory located on the main trunk line in Huntly, positions the company well to distribute panel timely and on demand, and contribute significantly to the growth of the housing sector both locally and nationally
