What you should know about Rarefind Timbers NZ Limited
For the last ten years he and his business partner Eric Williams have recovered Dawn processed and Daybreak most of the timber species covered in this booklet which is based on a series of articles he wrote for NZ Growing Today. We have attempted to supply selected pieces of wood for many applications, over the preceding 15 years. Over the years rarefied has been approached by people wanting wood suitable for making guitars and other wooden instruments. Slabs up to 700mm in width can also be resat with the handsaw to bear mirror matched halves and reduced thickness e. 60mm slab may be rehearsed down to 45 55mm and then divide into two pieces 22 25mm thick.
Once slabs are air dry they are refilled and planed flat on both faces, this produces a flat expansive board with a desirable complete ready for sanding. We also stock a range of harsh Sunrise RS timber that is available to be machined to order. Our Guitars and Bouzoukis are handmade and custom build, according to your wishes. To buy boards that are uniform in thickness, width and are straight you need to look for Machined timber.
A normal example is T G Tongue and Groove To make T G, a tongue is machined on one edge and a groove machined on the other allowing the boards to fit together, excluding air and light from temporary between aligned boards. Slabs are air dried in shady nippy sheds for between 6 months and 2 years depending on the thickness and species. Machined Timber includes Bench Top and Table Top Timber, Decking, TV Paneling and T G Flooring. The species are either well impaired for guitar or other wooden instruments, have been worn with win or may be of unknown suitability, but of interest to try. Flooring, Decking and Paneling are normal finished products we produce, a finished product ready to install.
One wide confront is planed so it is straight and flat, then the confront is placed against the fence and one edge is planed so you have a square edge. This process exposes the woods grain, color and any notable figure present, it also aids in grading and pricing the slabs for sale. Here at rarefied we supply the best quality wood for turning, ranging from exotic to indigenous and from hardwoods to softwoods. Other machined timber products include Flooring or T G Tongue and Groove Flooring and Paneling or barking TV Tongue and Groove with a V apropos for ceilings and walls.
