What you should know about Terra Firma Earth Building Company
We can design rammed earth homes and buildings that are beautiful, comfortable, weatherproof and energy efficient. Tall performing green homes built using sustainable, locally sourced and non toxic building materials. In my role as an architectural designer I am often approached by people who are building their home for the beginning time, this usually means they are also having a go at designing their dream home for the beginning time. Over the years I have been designing and building well green homes I have had to assess the value of compromise vs. Rammed Earth Walls Rammed earth walls are standard for all exterior walls, interior walls are a combine of rammed earth and timber frame depending on structural requirements.
As New Zealand’s leading Rammed Earth Construction Company, Terra firm has built up years of experience in the techniques involved in active with rammed earth. Over the end 20 plus years, our company has built at least 80 rammed earth dwellings and structures, most of these becoming much loved family homes. stabilized Rammed Earth is a high performance, cost effective building material. Hardin is being taken to task regarding the materials and systems they produce for the NZ housing industry.
Our next project was my first complete rammed earth design build project other than my own home. Design this is critical and our involvement in the design process is essential to ensure that the labor can be done at an acceptable cost as our systems of construction are unique to building rammed earth homes. Over the last 20 years I have built as many as 80 dwelling structures, of these homes I have designed, project managed and built as many as 50 of them. All of these homes are located in Fresh Zealand’s upper North Island in 12 diverse district and city councils.
Paul was so passionate about building and taking the environment into consideration. Terrafirma’s Managing Director Paul Geraets has been building exclusively in rammed earth since 1992 and is a Licensed Building Practitioner for Design area of practice 2 for category 1 and 2 buildings. In addition to the use of sub par materials is that building regulations are requiring the industry to cram more and more insulation into the walls and ceilings. Whilst we build new homes’ walls using rammed earth, incorporating rammed earth floors is very costly in a fresh build.
The initial reasoning after using NZ redwood was that I didn’t want to use aluminum, tanalised timber, imported timber or native timber
